China College Entrance Exams: Parents Being Tested

BEIJNG C A mother in Dalian City, Liaoning Province burst out crying after her daughter walked in to take the annual China college entrance exams Sunday. Other parents who brought their children for the exams tried to comfort her, but some ended up with crying together with her, reported the Sohu News. The Chinese-language news services reported that parents are shaking under huge exam pressure for college entrance in China. Universities and colleges will admit 5.59 million students this year, but 10.5 million have taken the exams. The crying mother said her daughter had been sick for months from the pressure of preparing and didn’t feel well after the first day of the two-day’s exams. The Sohu News reported that it’s common for parents to rent quiet hotel rooms for their children to prepare for the exams. They also rent cabs as exam transportation.

What a brutal truth that students and parents have to face today in China! Because of the limited resources and opportunities, fighting to be on top of others has been increasing stress and challenge to students as well as their parents. Luckily, I don't have to experience this
