六岁时，父母把他送进由于占元领导的中国戏剧学校学习戏曲，唱功和武打。成龙最初以武师身份进身电影圈，凭借个人的才华和热诚，其电影事业亦由武师发展至演员、导演以至监制。经常身兼数职，皆获最高成就。
成龙多年来努力不懈，他的电影十分买座，在海外更成功地建立起中国工夫英雄的形象。成龙在美国非常受欢迎。他曾于一九八二至八九年连续七年被美国《roadshow》杂志
评为美国“最受欢迎男演员”。又于一九八八年被同一杂志评为“最佳导演”：一九八九年，他获香港艺术家联盟评为“最佳男演员”。更于九二及九三年两度荣获金马奖的“最佳男主角”的荣誉：一九九零年，法国文化部又颁于成龙文艺骑士勋章的荣誉
除极力发展其个人电影事业外，成龙亦热心公益。偏爱推崇。他于一九八六年荣获为“香港十大杰出青年”：一九八八年又获评为“世界杰出青年”：一九九二年政府颁赠予成龙“世界杰出华人青年奖“的荣誉。一九八九年，他荣获英女皇颁发英帝国员佐勋章，又于一九九六年获香港浸会大学颁授获得社会科学博士学位。
成龙于一九八七年于香港成立了“成龙慈善基金会”，主要向有志修读与表演艺术和电影技巧有关的学生提供奖助学金，也同时向本地主办青少年活动的慈善机构体统经济资助，基金会成立至今，已有过百香港演艺学生受惠。
